Rwanda National Police has received 36 pick-up cars and 82 motorcycles to strengthen its capacity and especially its Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The equipment will boost the operational capacity of the CID throughout the country. Each police station and post is expected to receive a pick-up car and a motorcycle respectively. The equipment support is one of the outputs of the project 'Support to Crime Investigation for Fair Administration of Justice and Good Governance'.
The project aims at harnessing the capacity of the criminal Investigation Department to detect, investigate and prevent crimes in a professional way according to international standards and with respect for the law. The project pursues two avenues to achieve this objective. The project trains CID officers in various aspects of tactical investigations, forensic investigation, police intelligence and information. More specialized capacity building is planned for training of trainers to ensure sustainability of skills development with the police force. Regarding equipment and material support, and besides vehicles, the project provided specialized tools and software for the photo studio of Kigali Forensic Lab (KFL) for crime scene investigations.
Right after the 1994 Genocide, BTC came to the rescue of the Rwanda judicial system completely devastated. Different interventions in the sector aimed at supporting the sector reforms to make the judicial the guarantor of the rule of law in Rwanda.
