Vietnam: A good campaign never comes to an end

From 15 June until 15 July 2010, the Capacity Building in Assessing and Managing Water Resources project (CAPAS) in Vietnam organized an awareness-raising campaign on water management and water protection. The campaign closely collaborated with youth and women’s unions and aimed at all 130,000 inhabitants of twenty municipalities in Kim Bang district (Ha Nam province, Northern Vietnam).
The main activities during the 30-day campaign included collecting and clearing waste from the river, dredging ponds, lakes, ditches and rivers. There was also a competition on water resources knowledge. All participating local communities did their best to win the first water management knowledge reward.
The communication campaign received a warm response from unions, teachers, students and the public at large.
The closing ceremony of the campaign took place on 15 July 2010 at Kim Binh Primary School. The official campaign activities were closed and the final round of the water competition brought four municipalities together in an exciting final. More than 300 people attended the closing event.
The campaign would not have been possible without the enthusiastic help of young volunteers. Hang is a 23 year-old music teacher who volunteered in this campaign. She hopes that the campaign never stops. In her daily music classes she raises awareness on the importance of water resources by teaching her pupils songs about the local river.
