BTC publishes its Environmental Statement 2010-2012

BTC publishes its 2010-2012 Environmental Statement. The Environmental Statement is a requirement of the European EMAS regulations, which stipulate that EMAS-registered organisations must make public their annual environmental performance as well as the related objectives and projects.
The document provides the environmental policy of BTC as well as explanations related to the EMAS system, the scope of the registration, the services involved and the relation with quality management.
Right now, the BTC head office is EMAS registered (including the Infocycles, Trade for Development Centre and the Junior Programme) as well as the activities in which headquarters has a significant responsibility (training, communication...). In future, the Representations and even projects could be included in the scope.
The Statement includes the main results achieved:
- Diminishing sanitary water consumption by 15% between 2008 and 2009
- Diminishing electricity consumption by 12 % between 2006 and 2009
- Switching to green electricity
- CO2 compensation
- Mobility policy
- Publications
- Training sessions
- Participation to networks and forums...
For the years to come, BTC wants to emphasise the role of the environment in projects and programmes and to pay attention to environmental projects in particular (namely those related to the climate or natural resources).
The agency will pursue its efforts to reduce water, energy and paper consumption, compensate its air travel CO2 emissions, etc.
